Where am I? Holiday writing

I see...gnarly tree roots, like a complicated maze to navigate.
Windy, narrow paths, already marked with previous explorers and a flash of colour flying ahead.

I smell...the earthy, petrichor scent of damp soil, moss and decaying leaves.

I hear ...a flurry of native birds, beautiful song and the occasional  “Keep up Mum!”

I taste...cool sweet water, scoggin and muesli bars, nourishing my tired body.

I feel...jarring up my arms, a mixture of exhilaration and fear, bruises already developing
on my battered legs.

Where am I?

  1. Kia ora Shona,
what a great piece of writing! I guessed it was you form the "Keep up mum" bit. Am I right?
I had to look up "petrichor". What a great word and now I know the meaning I can conjure up the smell.

    1. Thank you Cheryl, very kind!
'Petrichor' was a word Ruby-rhain had used in her writing previously which I had never heard of. We added it to our WOW words list...I try to encourage our writers to use words from this list. It is an amazing word as, like you say, once you know the meaning you can conjure up the exact smell.

The 'Keep up Mum" part was a bit depressing, I realise just how much older I am getting when I mountain bike with my crew these days! Have you cycled through the Redwoods? Such a gorgeous spot.

      Have a great day

  2. Kia ora. I am Mya from Gisborne Intermediate School.
I really liked how you had the taste, smell, hear, see and feel.
It reminded me of when I went mountain biking with my class.
Maybe next time you could add more photos and add a video.
